Anyone who’s ever used AOL knows that they don’t let you choose how or what software is installed, that they won’t let you opt out of “advertising updates”, won’t let you cancel, and on top of that, that they literally won’t let you uninstall the software.
One perfect example of this stalkerish desire to keep you in their abusive grasp forever is this crap. To save you having to click through I’m reprinting the page for your viewing displeasure. All bolding/italicizing/all-capping is my own. This, by the way, is why I wrote a tutorial about how to uninstall the adapter, so you can actually get rid of the thing once you cancel AOL.
If the AOL adapter has become damaged or corrupt, this may cause problems accessing websites or even connecting to the AOL software.
To reinstall the AOL adapter:
- Close the AOL software.
- Right-click the AOL icon in your Windows system tray (at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, next to your PC’s clock).
- Select System Information.
- Click the Utilities tab.
- Click Rebuild/Uninstall AOL Adapter or click the Start button beside Rebuild AOL Adapter.
- When the confirmation appears, click OK.
When you restart the AOL software, the AOL adapter will be reinstalled automatically.
Why of course it will be reinstalled, won’t it? AOL will never let you do anything as simple as uninstall the software and stop using AOL. Never.
Here’s another perfect example of their stalkerish behavior:
AOL is the only company the public has ever dealt with that I seriously think we need to get a collective order of protection on.
